SENIOR SCIENTIST

Dr Mark Heath

Mark is based in Traverse’s Wellington office and has over 10 years of experience as a freshwater scientist, including seven years working at Greater Wellington Regional Council as a freshwater ecologist.

Mark has extensive experience in NPS-FM implementation and Schedule 1 processes and has participated in and led water quality expert panels, overseen the selection and implementation of land use and water quality models, led technical investigations, and communicated complex science to community committees. Mark has a PhD in Ecology and Biodiversity from Victoria University and has specialised expertise in the fields of cyanobacteria and periphyton. He strongly believes that good environmental outcomes are underpinned by robust science, clear communication and strong partnerships. His success in managing the risk to public health posed by toxic algal blooms across the Wellington region is one example of where Mark has built effective partnerships and worked collaboratively with a range of stakeholders for positive environmental and community outcomes.
